Officials in Action!

Kathy Lydiatt officiated at a TYR Pro Series swim meet outside of Chicago in March. These meets are held every couple of months throughout the US. To work this meet, a swim official has to be selected and be certified as N3 Stroke-and-Turn.
From Kathy: “Several prior Olympians and hopefully future Olympians were at the meet: Simone Manuel, Katie Douglas, Summer Macintosh (broke a record while there), Regan Smith, Michael Andrew, Shane Casas, and Lily King—very fun!”.
In case you missed it, I highlighted Kathy on Her Call in February. You can check out her story here!

Recently, I ran into Renee Williams at one of my daughter’s softball games. It was fun to see a pro in action—she’s really good at her craft! She was kind to let me bother her between games and get a selfie :)
Renee was highlighted on Her Call last Fall. She has a great story, and you can check it out here.
NSAA Spring Officials Appreciation Week
Congratulations to all Spring officials! Subscriber and soccer official Anna Glatte was highlighted in the NSAA Officials Appreciation Week social media campaign. Anna will be highlighted next month on Her Call. Way to represent, Anna!
Cool Resource for Softball Umpires: Thanks, Blue!
Thanks, Blue! is a Substack doing great work in the officiating world. I highly recommend you follow this publication!
Kevin Boughan from Newton, CT, is the author, and he is the VP of the Northwest Connecticut Umpires Association. He is in his 6th year of umpiring baseball and fastpitch softball for rec, town travel, travel, and Babe Ruth, Cal Ripken, and USA tournaments.
From Kevin: “My Substack is documenting my umpire season, what it’s like to be a youth league ump, the good, bad, and ugly. I hope to humanize the avocation and maybe inspire others. A long-time player and coach, I got behind the dish when my daughter ‘outgrew’ my coaching.”

NSAA Officials Summit 2025
The date for the NSAA Officials Summit has been set. Make plans to attend the event in Kearney at the Younes Conference Center on August 2! The detailed agenda can be found here.
This is an excellent opportunity to network with other officials across the state. There will be volleyball, basketball, football, softball, and wrestling sessions.

NSAA Procedure for Handling Racial and Derogatory Language
Have you seen this resource? It’s from the NSAA website. Unfortunately, we have to deal with this occasionally, and this is a nice protocol for handling this problem during live action and after the fact.
